Software agencies can turn system knowledge into a disclosed, permission-based referral, without touching a single client record.
Somewhere in your project archive there is an architecture diagram with a client’s entire business on it. Support desk on the left, CRM in the middle, the ERP integration your team rebuilt twice, and a data warehouse holding seven years of operating history.
Your agency may know how those systems connect better than an outside reviewer does. That knowledge has a new use: spotting clients that could license approved business data for AI training. It also comes with a hard line. Your architecture diagram can suggest a fit. It is not an inventory you get to sell.
THE SHORT VERSION
- Agencies can earn referral rewards by introducing a qualifying client’s decision-maker, never by handling the client’s data.
- SourceX’s standard reward is 25% of the Actual Supplier Payout, capped at US$100,000 per company.
- Disclose the fee, keep the referral separate from your project and let the client decide freely.

Why agencies spot the fit first
SourceX’s premise is that the permission-based business data AI needs (real support cases, sales histories, engineering work and internal documentation) mostly sits inside established companies.
Your team already knows which clients have that depth. You have seen the ticket volumes, the years of CRM activity and the internal wikis. You also know the executive who signs off on new initiatives.
That combination of context and a line to the right person is what makes a thoughtful introduction useful.
Stay inside the engagement
Use what the engagement already established, and stop there. Broad facts are enough for a first conversation: roughly how long the company has operated, which kinds of systems it runs, how large the team is.
What stays out:
- No new queries, exports or access requests to “prove” the fit
- No sample tickets, customer records or screenshots in the introduction
- No implication that your admin credentials give you a say in licensing
The client’s authorized leader decides whether to explore the opportunity and who reviews rights, security and commercial terms. If the client later wants technical help preparing a dataset, scope and price that as separate work with clear responsibilities. A referral reward never doubles as a free implementation promise or a reason to widen your access.

A clean agency referral: Spot the fit, Disclose and ask, Introduce. Concept illustration, not measured performance or a completed transaction.
How the reward works
The SourceX referral program pays a standard reward of 25% of the Actual Supplier Payout: the compensation SourceX pays the referred company, excluding separately itemized taxes and expense reimbursements. The reward is capped at US$100,000 cumulatively per referred company unless different terms are signed.
Hypothetical: if a referred client receives a qualifying supplier payout of US$240,000, the standard formula produces a US$60,000 reward. That is arithmetic to show the formula, not typical earnings or a reported deal.
Two details matter for client trust. SourceX pays the reward separately, so it does not reduce the client’s agreed payout. And the reward is payable only after a qualifying paid transaction: qualifying acceptance, cleared buyer payment to SourceX, SourceX paying the client, finance approval, your completed tax and payment details, and lawful payment. A lead, a meeting or a signed agreement alone does not trigger payment.
The standard reward deadline is 60 calendar days after the later of final written acceptance of the complete, validated dataset by the Acquisition Partner and completed handoff to that partner. All payment conditions still apply; an outstanding condition delays payment until it is satisfied, without starting a new 60-day period.
Does the client have to say yes?
No, and that freedom is the whole point. Tell the client plainly that you could receive a fee if a qualifying deal closes and is paid, then ask whether they want an introduction.
Their answer should have zero effect on your project, your support levels or your next renewal conversation. A licensing assessment is a separate decision from the software you were hired to build.
If you work across regions, check fit carefully. SourceX’s core fit is a company with at least 50 full-time employees at peak and a multi-year operating history. The US is prioritized, and Canada and the EU are also served. Companies in markets such as India, the UK or Singapore can qualify when at least 90% of their data is in English. Where your delivery office sits does not decide any of this; the client company does.

Who gets credit for the introduction?
Attribution follows the program terms, not the length of your relationship. The first valid introduction of a new company within the 90-day window receives credit when it leads to a verified application. Dated introduction evidence and prior relationships matter; a link click or application alone does not guarantee attribution. Companies with an existing SourceX application or relationship are excluded as duplicates, and only one partner can be credited per company.
So register through the correct route before you make the introduction. And check your own contracts: some client agreements and professional rules limit referral fees.

Pick one client to start. Choose one long-standing client that looks like a fit, disclose your potential fee and ask its authorized leader whether they want an introduction.
Pick one client to start
Choose one long-standing client that looks like a real fit. Write a two-line note to its authorized leader explaining why the opportunity might be relevant, that you could earn a fee, and that there is no obligation either way.
Then let SourceX and the client take it from there. Your team drew the diagram; the client decides what happens to everything on it. Make the introduction. Leave the data where it lives.
Before submitting introductions, partners need an approved account and a signed SourceX Channel Partner Agreement. Keep a dated record of the introduction and the company decision-maker’s permission.
Join SourceX‘s partner program, sign the current Channel Partner Agreement and ask one suitable client whether they would welcome an introduction. Share the connection, not the client records.
